A man was shot while reportedly stealing a catalytic converter.
Officers in Arlington, Texas responded after 5am to reports of a shooting at the 2700 block of Trinity Bend Circle, and found a man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.
The shooter was also at the scene, and he told police officers that he had heard a noise outside, and went to investigate. Once outside, he found a man trying to cut the catalytic converter off his vehicle. During this interaction, the shooter shot the would-be thief.
Police say the shooter cooperated and no charges have been filed as of the report. Police say they are not ruling out self defense.
I brought up a street view of what could have been the parking lot. I don’t see an abundance of lighting, so it is entirely possible the event took place in near darkness. If the shooter used a flashlight, and was therefore able to articulate exact details as to why he was justified in using deadly force, it may help his self-defense case. Of course, this is all speculation…
