Modlite just posted a good overview of 5 uses of white light, or “Lowlight Theory”. It’s worth the short watch. I appreciate how they included “control” as one of the 5 uses.
EPL Available for (Pre)Order!
The long-anticipated Cloud Defensive EPL is now available to order. Check the link here. However, I wouldn’t hold my breath. It says they’re shipping fall 2025, so it will be some time before the EPL arrives. It boasts 52,000 candela and 1,200 lumens, and attempts to provide both a wide flood and a strong hotspot. […]
Cloud Defensive MCH with 100,000 Candela?
Cloud Defensive has released their MCH-HC, which claims 100,000 candela and 1,250 lumens. If those claims prove out, this is one impressive light. I’ve always liked that the MCH carries well due to the reasonable size and metal pocket clip. I also like the swappable negligent discharge protectors, which will take care of most of […]
Nitecore EDC29
Nitecore announced their EDC29, which has a staggering max output of 6,500 lumens and 40,230 candela. It has a tail switch that allows quick access to full output, available lockout mode, pocket clip, battery display, and adjustable brightness. I personally like these flat lights and will be interested to check it out at Shot Show […]
Streamlight Megastream
Streamlight announced their Megastream pocket carry light this week. It’s got 3 modes, is recharageable with the battery inside or outside the light, and has a pocket clip. Perhaps the most interesting part are the specs: 1,800 lumens and 26,000 candela. My personal minimum for a defensive handheld is 20,000 candela. Lights of that strength […]

Here is a 11-minute video covering 5 uses of a white light, produced by Modlite. It includes two items we have consistently talked about, “identify” and “control”. Watch it here or on YouTube.
Nextorch Strobe & Distraction Device
Nextorch has released an interesting oddity, the ND30B. This appears to be an update of their recently-released ND30. If you would like a flashbang (and yes, you can get civilian versions of them), but don’t want something quite that violent, then perhaps this type of device is for you. It boasts a 1100 lumen flashing […]
