Hebrews 6:10 reads:
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
What strikes me here is that God sees laboring for and ministering to the saints as if those acts are done directly to him. This would obviously include providing meals for those within the church who are in need, or helping out a fellow Christian who is in a tough spot. When we do those things, God sees those acts as good works within his kingdom.
Modernly, Christians also work for most of their day at a job, then earn money. Then the Christian dedicates some of that money toward the works for the church. I believe God would see this in much the same way. While it isn’t directly ministering, the dedication is still there. If the Christian tithes 10%, then it is as if 4 hours every week is effectively laboring for the saints.
Practically speaking, I think direct ministry is important. We should all get our hands dirty assisting other saints. But we should also not dismiss our monetary contributions either. Some people can do the greatest good for God’s earthly kingdom by cooking the meals. Some people are more talented at business, and can help more saints by providing the money.
My encouragement is that I can minister to the saints either way.
