We talked with Canik at Shot regarding their newest release, the MC9 Prime. My guess is that this pistol will be popular, coming in just over $600 street price. Taking from the popular Mete MC9, the Prime provides a more aggressive grip texture, 17-round capacity, stronger slide serrations, and an integrated compensator. The pistol has […]

Smith & Wesson announced their new CSX E-Series pistol. This micro-compact single-action pistol now boasts an aluminum frame, optic-cut for Shield RMS-C or Holosun 507k mount optics, and now a modular grip. The modular grip adapter allows you to customize for better concealment or a larger grip size. Supposedly, Smith & Wesson has a feature […]

Kel-Tec has released a lightweight defensive pistol with one interesting feature for those of you in certain states. The PR57 is (you guessed it) chambered in the lightning fast 5.7 round. Due in part to the rotating barrel, this comes in at just over half the weight of the next lightest pistol chambered in 5.7mm, […]

I saw this interesting image posted on AR15.com. Perhaps Canik will have a new pistol for us again this year? It appears to be a compensated MC9L but slightly longer, and with different slide cuts and more aggressive grip stippling. I’ll have to check out the Canik booth to see if the rumor is true!

Shortening or lengthening the barrels or grips of pistols seems to result in endless variations. Springfield has another variation of their Prodigy, the “Compact.” It’s available in either 3.5″ or 4.25″ barrel configurations, and features a grip shortened to fit a 15-round magazine. The pistol also has a shortened beavertail to make it a little […]

FN’s Reflex gets the XL treatment. Taking their popular Reflex, FN has made it larger. This does tend to make the pistol easier to shoot. Features include: It’s also interesting to take note that instead of being striker-fired, like much of the industry, the Reflex pistols have an integral hammer fire. If you’re looking for […]

Staccato has announced their HD pistols, in either 4.0 or 4.5 inch barrel configurations. These 2011s feature a number of key features: This looks like a nice set of features. I’m not certain whether removing the grip safety is an improvement or not; I’ve shot a lot of 2011, and never had problems with grip […]

Heckler & Koch has introduced their A1 evolution of the VP9 platform. It features a better trigger and a grip without finger grooves. Additionally, modular grip panels allow length of pull adjustment. At one time I carried a VP9. This was the original style with the paddle mag release — which I happen to like. […]

Kriss has announced their Kymera DA/SA pistol (link goes to a email signup page to get more info at launch), which they’ll debut at Shot 2025 next week. This is a modular pistol with a number of different grip sizes, plus potentially other features. Pictures show without a mounting rail for lights, but I would […]

I am not a big fan of plate mounting options for optics on pistols. I don’t think they’re as robust as they should be, often due to poor thread engagement of the screws, and due to minimal mechanical interface between the slide and the optic. In addition, plate mounts typically push the optic up enough […]
