Two men knocked on the door, announcing they were police serving a warrant. The homeowner used his doorbell camera to determine the men had badges around their necks, were armed, and had ski masks on. However, he was suspicious because there was no police car and because they were masked.
Apparently sensing the homeowner’s hesitance, the men shot through the door at the homeowner, who returned fire. Neighbors report hearing 22 gunshots.
The homeowner wasn’t hurt, but the two “fake cops” were pronounced dead at the scene.
It makes me wonder how many people would simply open the door, trying to be compliant with authority. In this case, good awareness helped this homeowner prevent the tragic situation from being worse.
