In my work through Psalms 105, I come to verse 6.
Psalm 105:6: O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
Up to this point, the psalmist exhorts the reader to give thanks and praise to the Lord, sing until Him, seek the Lord, and remember his wonderful works. Amen! But now we come to the “who should do this” verse. The seed of Abraham and the children of Jacob are called out. Does this mean the physical descendants only? If so then I suspect most Christians are disqualified. Or is this referring to spiritual descendants, which could include modern Christians?
Let me first look at the words in the verse. It says “seed of Abraham his servant” and “children of Jacob his chosen.” This seems to indicate some special qualities of Abraham and Jacob — serving the Lord and being chosen by the Lord. Christians are chosen by Christ (John 15:16, 1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 1:4, 2 Thessalonians 2:13). Christians are called to serve the Lord (Ephesians 2:10, Colossians 3:23-24, Matthew 25:40).
Next, let me look and see if the bible tells me anything about Abraham’s seed?
Galatians 3:16 “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.”
Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Romans 9:7-8 “Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
These verses seems spot-on. Christians are the seed of Abraham. And Christians are clearly “chosen.”
Thus, Christians are in the privileged position to be born into His household, and subject to His providence and provision, as well as His correction. We Christians are chosen and beloved children in His kingdom.
Rejoice!
