Before 2am in Indianapolis, a man and his girlfriend were walking to a bar, when they spotted a man in an alley. The man started to follow the couple, asking if the couple could “throw hands or fight”. In response, the man being followed said he “wasn’t about that” and lifted his shirt to show a firearm in his waistband. The following man left.
A short time later, two men surprised this couple from behind, tackled the armed man and started to grab at his waist. In response, the armed man grabbed his gun and shot one of the two men in the stomach. In response, the second attacker said “you shot my uncle I’m going to kill you.” It’s unclear exactly what happened afterward, but when police arrived, the second attacker was on top of the armed man (presumably unarmed at this point) punching him in the face.
Police arrested the second attacker and the man who was shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The injured man has since been charged as well.
This incident highlights one danger of revealing a concealed weapon. Onlookers can then use surprise or distraction to relieve the owner of their firearm, which can then be used against the person it is supposed to help protect.
