Man Shot While Restraining Gunman

A father was killed by Phoenix police while restraining a gunman who had shot out the sliding glass door and entered his home. This tragic incident has the family calling for an investigation. They claim that their landlord’s mentally unstable son started shooting at the home, and shot one person in the ankle when doing that. The man then came around to the sliding glass door, shot it out, and entered the home. The father and uncle, who were in the home, then tackled the gunman and took his gun away. They then called Phoenix PD. When the police arrived, female residents of the home left and told the police that the man was subdued and the PD could put their guns away. However, an officer saw the father “beating on” the gunman, and shot him in the head. The father died at the scene.

It’s impossible to know the full circumstances of an incident like this from the news article. However, it does emphasize the need to positively identify threats and non-threats quickly and accurately. Lights are a valuable tool in such identification.
