I recently posted a story about an apparent contract killing while a man was warming up his car. Here is a case with some similarities.
Ricardo Rodriguez left his apartment to start his car and warm it up about 6am. He was approached by Dylan Marlow, whom police describe as a transient, who was yelling & looking for his girlfriend. Rodriguez and Marlow did not know each other prior.
Marlow left the area, and Rodriguez went back into his apartment. When Rodriguez left his apartment again to go to his car, Marlow approached him again. Violence ensued, and Rodriguez used his handgun to defend himself and shot Marlow. However, Marlow took the handgun and shot Rodriguez.
Police responded, and Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, and Marlow transported to the hospital. He was later released into police custody. Marlow’s booking photo is here.
I like a warm car when I’m leaving my home in the winter. I often start my vehicle to warm it up before leaving. However, this story highlights a potential vulnerability. Warming up the vehicle not only exposes some cars to increased risk of theft, but also exposes the owner twice in the morning to potential attacks. Additionally, it highlights the risks of using a weapon to defend oneself. If you’re armed and get into a fight, then you have risk of your weapon being used against you.
