Francesk Shkambi, manager of Prime 7 in Commerce Township (near Detroit) was killed around 9:30pm on Sunday. He had apparently received a call, went outside, and was shot there by Tonin Pjetri, according to the local sheriff. The shooter left the scene, but turned himself in to a police station approximately 20 minutes later.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated that his investigators recovered the suspected murder weapon, a 9mm pistol, which had been reported stolen earlier this year from a local township. Apparently the two men had a long running argument and had been friendly in the past, but the sheriff did not disclose further information on the argument.
To add to the mystery, Shkambi was pardoned by President Biden in late 2024 from his sentence of 27 years in federal prison for leading a drug trafficking ring that smuggled narcotics into the United States, which he had been serving since 2014.

It is hard to imagine the circumstances that led to this tragedy. It’s also difficult to know whether Shkambi even knew he was in danger when taking the call and going out to the patio. Was it the killer calling him to lure him away from others? Or was the killer opportunistic when Shkambi walked outside? Would Shkambi even had time to draw and use a pistol if he were armed? Or was Shkambi not allowed to carry due to previous conviction? One thing I do know is that it was dark and later in the evening, which often emboldens individuals. Further, the late hour could have meant that Pjetri had been drinking, thus stirring up his emotions over potential previous disputes. Bottom line is that this highlights that unresolved disputes can spiral into tragedy, especially in the hours of darkness.
