IED + Gunshots at 4am!

November 6 just after 4am, deputies near Portland Oregon responded to a call. When arriving they found that an explosive device had been set (“thrown”) at the front door of a residence and multiple bullet holes were found in the same door.

Washington County Deputies arrested Samuel Lund, 37, of Beaverton OR. He is facing four counts of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree arson, four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, and unlawful possession of a destructive device.

I cannot imagine being awakened at my home from an explosion and gunshots at a door of my home. Given the early hour, I can assume it was dark outside. For such circumstances, having a flashlight and firearm at the ready (preferably a quick access safe) is important. In the early morning confusion, it is even more important to positively identify targets. Thankfully in this case, it appears that the suspect wasn’t able to gain entry nor were the home’s occupants injured.
