16-year-old Daquavius Royalston was killed last month coming into his own home at 3am by another occupant of the residence.
Atlanta police said the shooting suspect believed Royalston was an intruder when he opened fire. The shooter was seen leaving the scene with a handgun and per the stories at the time, is still at large.
The shooter is believed to be Daquavius’ mom’s boyfriend, and father to Daquavius’ 3-year-old half brother.
I don’t know the circumstances of this tragic incident, but it seems that a proper light, whether handheld or weapon-mounted, could have helped the shooter identify the subject and avoid this tragedy.
