Intruder Shot While Police Surrounding House

In Georgia, an intruder was shot in the early morning hours.

Video footage shows the man breaking into the house by throwing a propane tank through a back sliding glass door, then he moved inside and was breaking stuff. He also was reportedly taking off his clothes. Police were called, arrived, and were surrounding the house. It’s unclear exactly what happened next, but police say that as they were getting ready to enter the house, the homeowner shot the intruder, who ultimately died from his injuries.

Reports are that the man may have jumped over a fence from a nearby shopping mall, traveled through the forest behind the home, and into the home. The incident happened around 4:30am on a Monday. News reports from the time indicate that the homeowner hasn’t been charged.

I cannot imagine the horror of someone violently breaking into my home, then having to use my firearm to stop the threat… especially with police outside, or in the process of coming in. I will say, it’s impressive the police got there before the homeowner had to use the pistol; in rural areas such as where I live, deputies can easily be over a half hour drive time away. During a late-night break-in such as this, having a light on my pistol will help me identify and possibly control threats. However, turning on the house lights after the incident might be important to show police that I’m not a threat, so that I don’t get shot as well.
