Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Indeed, they rage. The reaction of the assassination of Charlie Kirk is appaling, and you can find evidence of this bad behavior on any social media platform. Many are celebrating the death of a man who simply wanted to talk things out. Some people apparently think that having a debate should be punishable by death.
One of the most horrifying and surprising evolutions we have witnessed among our widespread campus network is the rapid movement away from tolerating opposing ideas and respectful debate to the deployment of obscene bully tactics from the left. — Charlie Kirk
I find the assassination shocking. I also find that some reactions online lack any semblance of humanity. It is tempting to be angry. But I must also control and direct my anger. I shall not rage like the heathens. I will not turn to social media to stir things up; I will not be looking for some poor person as an outlet for anger. Instead I will pray to the Lord for reformation and revival. I will pray to the one that can set our nation back on the holy path.
Verses 2-5:
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.
Indeed, everything around us is controlled by God. This is a comfort. Satan can steal, kill, and destroy but he cannot win.
This event, as horrible as it is, should make us more bold. Flak comes when you are over the target. Charlie Kirk must have been making an impact where he spoke; college students were positive affected by his work. We must now lift up others who carry on the type of work he was doing. We must help this generation’s students learn a viewpoint other than the ones promoted in taxpayer-funded schools. The event is tragic, especially since Charlie was doing a good work. But we know God is in control, and will work even this tragedy for the good of those who love Him.
I also want to point out that there are many who want to see an overreaction by conservatives in America. Once we overreact, they can justify law enforcement action, or simply use it as proof that it is justified to kill conservatives. Please do not take the bait.
