The Smith & Wesson Shield has been a popular concealed carry handgun since it was released way back when. A number of people I knew carried the Shield, and some even competed with it. Werkz even provides non-light-bearing holsters for the Shield. However, the initial version was down on capacity, which Smith & Wesson addressed in the Shield Plus. The other big deficiency has now been addressed.
The Smith & Wesson Shield X has an accessory rail on which to mount a light or laser. This allows users to easily mount one of today’s excellent small lights to help ensure threats can be identified even in low light.
While that change alone is compelling, Smith & Wesson made additional updates. The pistol is optic-ready using the RMSc footprint. It also adds capacity with a longer grip — 13 round flush fit, and 15 round extended. The grip itself is redesigned with a higher beavertail for higher grip position. It also has updates sights, though I would expect a lot of users set up primarily for optic use.
It looks like the pistol is available for around $500 street price today.
