FBI Agent Faces Gun Charges for Killing “Hero”

Some stories have a lot going on.

At the heart of this tragedy is a FBI officer who apparently has a habit of pointing his pistol at people in his neighborhood.

A 20-year-old was riding his dirt bike down the street and was stopped by FBI Agent Benjamin Spinale, who pointed his pistol at the dirt bike rider twice. The rider then went home, told his father & brother what happened, and they came back to the area to determine the name of the street where the son was stopped.

Officers then stopped the the father, son, and brother, and questioned them. During this time of questioning, a man in plain clothes (presumably Spinale?) pointed his gun at them and escalated the situation.

Tragically, a local neighbor, Harold Chamberlain, became involved, and was shot by the off-duty agent. The sheriff’s office said the victim was a hero, rushing from his nearby home to help officers during an altercation in the street.

Police have not disclosed details of what happened moments before the shooting. Spinale currently only faces brandishing charges.

I have no idea what the lesson may be here. If officers are apparently in need of help, I suspect most of us would step in. Any one of us could have been in Harold Chamberlain’s shoes.
