CZ Shadow 2 Carry: The Best CZ for EDC?

I’m a fan of DA/SA pistols. The mechanism provides an extra layer of protection for when holstering. When out training for hours, it’s possible to miss that piece of brass inside the holster mouth, or a shirt bunched up in the trigger guard area. But DA / SA pistols provide the ability to holster with the hammer down, and covered by the operator’s thumb, thus reducing the chance of something tragic happening.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many choices when it comes to DA/SA hammer fired carry pistols. Some of the more notable pistols that come to mind are:

  • HK has their line of pistols, including the reliable and ergonomic P30.
  • Beretta has their 92 series and the excellent PX4 pistols.
  • Sig Sauer offers their P226 and P229 pistols, with the decocker that many people prefer.
  • If you wanna go way out there, you might be able to find the old Swiss-made Sphinx SDP (note: Kriss is revising the old SDP to make it modular).
  • CZ has also offered some pistols including the remake of the old P-07 and P-09, the CZ P09 Nocturne.

CZ has recently announced their Shadow 2 Carry pistols. These pistols look similar to the popular Shadow 2 Compact, but with additional safety features. CZ advertises:

The decocker allows for the safe release of a cocked hammer. The firing pin block secures the firing pin against movement until the trigger is pulled. A double-action trigger with light and smooth trigger travel in both modes has been a standard feature on our guns for many decades. The longer travel in double-action mode also serves as a safety feature.

I like CZ pistols, and they have a strong reputation for quality and reliability. This is definitely less of a “gamer gun” and more of an EDC piece. Though not polymer like the Nocturne, it appears to be of reasonable weight. The Carry also comes stock with an optic cut, which is required on today’s modern pistols.

What do you think of the Shadow 2 Carry? Is one in your future? I know I’ll be looking to pick one up to verify fitment in our Shadow 2 holsters, plus possibly make new holsters for this platform.
