I’m a fan of DA/SA pistols. The mechanism provides an extra layer of protection for when holstering. When out training for hours, it’s possible to miss that piece of brass inside the holster mouth, or a shirt bunched up in the trigger guard area. But DA / SA pistols provide the ability to holster with the hammer down, and covered by the operator’s thumb, thus reducing the chance of something tragic happening.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many choices when it comes to DA/SA hammer fired carry pistols. Some of the more notable pistols that come to mind are:
- HK has their line of pistols, including the reliable and ergonomic P30.
- Beretta has their 92 series and the excellent PX4 pistols.
- Sig Sauer offers their P226 and P229 pistols, with the decocker that many people prefer.
- If you wanna go way out there, you might be able to find the old Swiss-made Sphinx SDP (note: Kriss is revising the old SDP to make it modular).
- CZ has also offered some pistols including the remake of the old P-07 and P-09, the CZ P09 Nocturne.
CZ has recently announced their Shadow 2 Carry pistols. These pistols look similar to the popular Shadow 2 Compact, but with additional safety features. CZ advertises:
