Jeremiah 38:4

Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

Who is this traitor? He should be put to death, right? Apparently the princes thought so.

This reminds me of the number of traitors within the United States. You know, those who spoke against the COVID injections, those who speak against the actions of their governments, and those who speak out against war. Modernly, these resistors of the official narrative have been the recipients of jail, death threats, and the like.

Back to this passage in Jeremiah, who had prophesied that those who had said (JER 38:3),

Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.

We know that Jeremiah was right.

For me, there are a few lessons. First is that things don’t really change; there will always be those who want to control the narrative and will jail people who speak out. Second is that those who speak against may be right. Third is that God’s faithful ministers need to continue their work, even when people speak untruths against them.
