Glock x Aimpoint

I am not a big fan of plate mounting options for optics on pistols. I don’t think they’re as robust as they should be, often due to poor thread engagement of the screws, and due to minimal mechanical interface between the slide and the optic. In addition, plate mounts typically push the optic up enough to require suppressor height sights for co-witnessing.

Glock just announced a collaboration with Aimpoint which may solve these issues.

They are calling the slide mount the “A-Cut” and it appears to be a dovetail style mount with a locating slot to prevent side-to-side movement. The cut is quite deep, allowing the optic to be mounted lower. The rear of the optic is held down by a plate that includes the rear sight. The screws appear to have a significant amount of thread engagement.

The optic itself is an Aimpoint enclosed emitter. Though this particular part is new, Aimpoint has a proven reputation for quality optics.

While some people may not like the idea of yet another optic standard, I personally like the idea of a rugged option. However, I’m not sure if it can be applied to other pistols. For those who want a “out of the box” package supported by two of the best names in the industry, this could be a good solution.
