Modlite now has a 18650 version of their PDW light, the PDW-650, and a slimmer PDW-350. No matter the configuration, this light produces at least 54,000 candela. Per Modlite,
The PDW-650 is a purpose-built light designed to simplify and streamline your compact rifle setup. Featuring an integrated mount for seamless installation and a front-loading battery for quick installation. The integrated mount places the light at a simple but effective 12 O’clock position on your Picatinny rail for intuitive switching with the support hand. Built to keep a rugged but low profile, the PDW-650 is ready for your setup straight out of the box.
This light can be purchased with either the PLHv2 head (more lumens), or the OKW head (more candela).
- OKW: 680 lumens, 69,000 candela for throw-focused performance.
- PLHv2: 1350 lumens, 54,000 candela for all-around use.
I personally love the OKW head, PDWs are more suitable for close quarters, so I would choose the PLHv2. Sadly, Modlite no longer offers the PLH5k head.
If you want to see a comparison of Modlite heads, check out this article on LowLightDefense, or the following video. Both focus on the PL350, so they indicate the performance of the light using the 18350 battery.
